A French study revealed that Castilian is the language faster, next to Japanese.

François Pellegrino, University of Lyon, analyzed the speech of 59 people as they read the same 20 texts aloud and in seven languages.

Determined that the Castilian and the Japanese were the fastest at a rate that contributed the largest number of syllables per second.

The Mandarin language proved to be the “slower”, closely followed by German, as recorded by the portal ABC.es.

However, the investigation established that a syllable of Castilian carries very small amount of information, as opposed to the Mandarin, whose syllables contain more data than any other language.

Experts attribute this fact, the Chinese language also includes tones.

Pellegrino’s study opens up the possibility of a “universal grammar”, proposed by the renowned linguist Noam Chomsky, as it shows that the different languages, despite their different structures and characteristics, providing the listener an information flow which is constant.

While the rating agency Standard & Poor’s threatened to Spain rebajarle up two steps because of the high weight of its foreign debt, a new study by the Telefonica Foundation presented at the Cervantes Institute in New York compared to the Spanish language with an “enterprise multinational “that can provide many economic benefits to Spain, mainly to Latin America.

“The Spanish language is a powerful driver of trade between Spanish-speaking countries,” said Professor Jose Luis Garcia Delgado, one of the authors of the report “The economic value of Spanish”.
This ‘multinational company’ has 450 million Spanish speakers in the world, with a purchasing power of $ 4.2 billion, which accounts for 9% of global GDP. 85% of Spanish speakers are concentrated in America.
The study found a common language quadruple trade between Spanish-speaking countries and seven investments.

China learns Spanish
Speaking Spanish is a competitive advantage for those countries that conduct trade with Latin America. China has realized this and that is why it has increased the demand for Spanish classes in the country. “The Chinese learn Spanish because they want to understand their partners and do business more easily,” says Garcia Delgado.
The main partners of China in Latin America are Argentina and Brazil. The latter country has also become the Spanish in their second language, in order to integrate into a Spanish-speaking environment and strengthen its economic leadership in Latin America.
“The Chinese learn Spanish because they want to understand their partners and do business more easily”
Jose Luis Garcia Delgado, author of the report
Speaking Spanish can also be an advantage for workers who want to change their country. Language is the factor that tripled migration from Latin America to Spain, although this trend has been affected by the crisis.
“Because they speak Spanish, the Spanish-speaking worker can get a ‘wage premium’ that can be 30%,” says Garcia Delgado.

The future power speaking
In the United States live about 43 million Hispanics and Spanish is the second most spoken language. 10% of senior management are Hispanic and 30 senators and congressmen.
United States will become the country’s largest Spanish-speaking world in 2050. One in three Americans will be Hispanic. According to forecasts by the Office of the U.S. Census for that year will live in the country 132.8 million Hispanics, more than three times the current 46.7 million.

In Europe, Spanish has established itself as second foreign language after English, displacing French, German and Italian, both in the Nordic countries in Central Europe and east. Spanish is a determining factor for the reception in Spain of 35,000 university students of the European Erasmus program each academic year. Spain is the country of destination and is home to 17% of students from 32 countries of the program.

It is the second language of communication on the Internet, after English. It has 680 million web pages. This places it behind English (1,000 million) and Chinese (900 million) but ahead of German and French (500 million web pages), Russian (less than 400 million) and Arabic (130 million pages).

José Luis García Delgado, autor do relatório

“I am from Turkey,” said Dr. Ozan Sozer, plastic surgeon recognized internationally for his innovative techniques of plastic surgery. But when I reach El Paso, experience and credentials were not enough and had to learn Spanish.

“Majority of the patients prefer to speak Spanish, it is important to communicate with patients,” said Dr. Sozer.

Judge Alex Gonzalez Judge County Court No 4 ensures that Spanish is essential not only for lawyers but also in its role as judge.

“I managed to communicate better with those presented to the court, understand their problems, understand your case, and communicate in a way that they understand what the judge calls them,” said Judge Gonzalez.

Judge Gonzalez and Dr. Sozer are just two examples which show that in El Paso, besides having a title is necessary to speak Spanish.

“Person forearmed bilingual and can communicate with people twice,” said Dr. Sozer.

“If you have one you can communicate your own business, you can do business with people twice” Judge Gonzalez concluded.

The reality is that these opportunities transcend borders and are already recognized by other people who are not Hispanic and according to statistics more than 50% of college students studying another language are learning Spanish.

“Many people such as Anglo-Saxon learning Spanish because it opens up business opportunities in Spain, Europe and throughout the Latin American market,” said Ernesto Castañeda, teacher of the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Texas at El Paso .

This is something that many Hispanic parents here in the step is not displayed because there is a certain stigma …

“If you look at monolingual in Spanish, at what level we find them? Workers, domestic workers often low-status people unfortunately,” said Dr Aurolyn Luyxks, anthropologist and teacher at the University of Texas at El Paso, who devoted to studying the sociocultural aspects of language.

And now it is common for young people who did not develop the Spanish since childhood, they realize the importance of language to job seekers.

“Especially in the way it has become practically a requirement to be bilingual to work in many jobs not only in trade but also in offices, hospitals, schools,” said Castaneda.

Not to reduce the opportunities for children, is important for parents to instill pride first and language roots, and then look for a school that offers a good bilingual program …

“It seems almost logical, intuitive to think that ‘well, the more English you will learn faster’ but really is not,” said Luyxks.

And it is common that children focus on learning English and neglect only falling behind academically in school.

“On a good bilingual program are not far behind with the issue of academic content, they develop the English while keeping Spanish are,” said Dr Luyxk.

Another option to keep the language is to implement a rule that only speak Spanish at home, have movies, books and music in Spanish to get used to hearing and reading the language.

If still not convinced, here are other important points it is good that their children speak good Spanish:

- To communicate with more than 350 million people speak it as first language
- Because it is the second most spoken language in this country and the fourth worldwide
- Of the five continents there, spoken in 4
- To get the most travel to Mexico, Central and South America and Spain, Equatorial Guinea and Western Sahara. Since the Spanish is best seen in the people and culture of the 21 countries that have as their official language.
- To better understand certain terms of science, medicine, legal and other areas whose origins are derived from Latin.
- To find more trading opportunities to colleges and universities around the world
- In order to see firsthand the music, movies, Spanish literature and art …
- If they learn good Spanish also have other bases generated from the Latin languages like Italian, Portuguese and French.

Remember that although it is important to have a good Spanish to expand opportunities here in the U.S. has to strengthen the English therefore have to be bilingual.
